Today we moved on to a different island. We did nothing all morning. We packed and headed to the airport. After landing in Honolulu, we picked up the rental car. We were supposed to have a truck but they upgraded us to a jeep. Stephen’s request was that it not be a red jeep and sure enough it was red. Can you believe we had two red jeeps in Hawaii? So random. We found out why they “upgraded” us. They did not have a single truck anywhere in the lot. We headed toward our condo and were in shock about our surroundings. The freeway was an actual freeway. There were high rise condos and homeless people everywhere. This island sucks! We felt like we were in New York City. There were cars and people everywhere. It took us 20 minutes to get two miles near our condo. Take me back to Kauai.
We finally made it to our condo which was a two-minute walk to Waikiki Beach. We ventured out to the beach. We never made it to Duke’s in Kauai so that had to be our first stop this afternoon. We got a great table in the shade just steps from the beach. We met up with a friend of mine for drinks and dinner. She just moved to the island. It was great catching up with her. Stephen and Kyle were bored with our conversation so they took off and started swimming in the ocean. I guess we should have planned ahead and had them get into their swimming suits before we headed out. I had three really good Mai Tais at Dukes so I was ready to party. Mike…not so much.
We dropped Mike off at the condo and the boys changed. The boys and I then hit the town. Our timing in Waikiki was perfect. Although this area is not my idea of a Hawaiian vacation, it was cool to be here during the Pan Pacific Festival. We learned some new dances and danced with a large congregation of visitors from Japan. We listened to drumming crews and singers, watched dancers, held parrots and people watched. We finished off our night by checking out several Teslas.
