Today I got to sleep, which was great. I worked on the blog and took a shower. I emptied the RV, which I messed up by emptying the grey first. Then we finished packing up the RV and put the trailer on the truck and we hit the road. I didn’t drive because I have never driven with a trailer before. It was only a 1-hour drive so it was nothing crazy. I stayed in the RV and made sure that everything stayed in its place and didn’t fall over. In the last 10 minutes of the drive, I sat in the front because you could see the town in the middle of the valley which is surrounded by huge mountains. Then we drove through the very small and old town with one road going through the center of it. We found the RV park and met up with Mom and Dad’s friends in the campground. Then we went to a brewery to watch the Suns with their final playoff game to send them to the NBA finals. We went home and crashed.
Silverton, Colorado. The Valley beneath all the great mountains. The home of the miners.
Today was moving day again. We woke up early and took Kyle’s and Mike’s mountain bikes to a bike shop to get repaired. Kyle bent a sprocket and Mike’s gears were not shifting correctly. They fixed them for us while we waited. We stocked up on groceries at Walmart, gassed up the motorhome and truck and headed out of town toward Silverton. There were times on the way up the mountain we were driving a whopping 26 miles an hour! The poor motorhome had its work cut out for it. After climbing the tall mountains, there was a steep descent into the valley of Silverton which tested the brakes of the motorhome. We arrived at the Silverton Lakes RV Park shortly after noon and got settled in our new spot for the next five days. We are dry camping next to the Animas River. It’s an adjustment to be dry camping and have to conserve water and shower in the public showers but the facilities are nice.
After all the families (11 total) all got settled in, we had a fun game of dads versus kids whiffle ball baseball. Stephen and Kyle who have never played baseball (they always thought it was too boring), got some hits and even scored some runs. While they played, I was the umpire/catcher. It was a hard-fought game but the dads destroyed the kids 9 to 4. A couple of the kids decided to do the polar bear plunge and swam in the river. It was freezing so they didn’t stay in long. The scenery all around us is breathtaking. It was a great evening catching up with friends who all made the trek with us from Arizona to meet here in Silverton. Lots of laughs were had by all.
