While we were eating shave ice yesterday, Kyle saw a bike rental place. He misses his bicycle. He and his boys ride for hours on their bikes at home so he asked if we could rent bikes tomorrow. There is a cool bike path nearby so we planned a bike riding day. We made our way to Hele On Kauai Bike Rentals. It’s a locally owned business that’s been around forever and it’s right near the bike path. We got our bikes and set out for a three-hour bike ride on the Ke Ala Hele Makalae bike path along the east coast of Kauai. It was BEAUTIFUL seeing the coast this way. We saw so many beaches, so many beautiful lookouts, some interesting exercise happening on the beach, lots of chickens, beautiful plants and we talked to the nicest people who were also enjoying their rides.
After going to the end of the trail on the north end, we headed back south. We rode all the way to our condo and regrouped. We then set out for a ride to the Lydgate Beach Park. We were getting tired and hungry by this point so we rode back and returned our bikes. On the way back, Stephen’s bike chain kept coming off so that was a drag. I tried to tow him with the bike lock we were given. What a comedy routine that was.
We dropped off the bikes and found a lunch spot. We ended up at Nom Kauai. We had a short wait to get in because they only had two people serving and they were like a lot of the locals we’ve met…not in a hurry to do anything. That is one reason we love Kauai so much except when we’re starving!
We ordered and eventually got our food and drinks. OMG! The food was amazing and worth the wait. Kyle tried to order an ultimate chicken sandwich without the chicken and the guy told him they would not make the sandwich that way. He got it and ate the chicken since it was so good. Mike and Stephen got burgers and they loved them also. We were so stuffed when we left that place that we all wanted to come home and nap.
Before heading home, we cruised by the Opaeka’a Falls and the lookout for the Wailua Heritage Trail. We snapped some photos and headed home. We napped and never left the condo the rest of the day. We were fat and happy. We watched movies, played heated games of checkers at the dining table that also doubles as a checker/chess table, and we relaxed. We were so full we never ate dinner that night. If you’re ever in Kauai you have to check out Nom. It was a successful food truck for many years and a year ago the owners opened this restaurant. If we ever come back to Kauai we will definitely be back.
Best thing about today: Stephen – “Seeing Opaeka’a Falls”, Kyle – “Going biking”, Mike – “Biking”, Amber – “Seeing the beaches along the bike path and the ultimate sandwich from Nom”
